Title: Growth

Exhibition I created this piece the way that I did because I wanted to experiment with a different kind of medium. I had never worked with digital painting before, and I wanted to take this opportunity to use it and create something different. The meaning of my piece is to show that something as beautiful as nature takes time to create the wonderful things it brings us, and that we should really appreciate it more.

Inspiration/Research When I first look at this piece, I saw flowers coming out of what looks to be the world. The colors that she chose for that specific object and the slightly round shape to it back up my theory.
This could mean that flowers could represent the new life coming to the world, to regenerate and make something more. In this piece I created, I was inspired by the nature that I saw while walking through my neighborhood during the summer days. To me nature is so beautiful and something that I really enjoy to represent in my own way, and to take my own twist to it. Just like O’Keeffe did when she was looking for inspiration for her many pieces. The flowers are what she decided to create from nature, through the way that she wanted them to be seen. |
Process First Slide: This slide shows the final sketch that I have selected to use for my piece. I chose to use this one because I wanted to do something different, and show a series sort of connection to create something unique.
Second Slide: This slide shows how I made the image to be transparent in photo shop, so I can trace my image digitally and add both the details and the colors of my choice. Third Slide: This side shows my piece before I was able to make the final color corrections and make sure that my piece was looking the way that I wanted it to. |
Reflection Overall, I believe that this project went really well. I knew that I wanted to experiment with the idea of digital painting, and try something different to expand my works. I have looked into this before, but I never really got into it, and thought that it could be something that I could use efficiently, and turn into something that I enjoy.
Some struggles that I had during this project was using photo shop itself. A lot of the times when I tried to save my work, photo shop would either crash or take forever to load completely. Sometimes I didn't even know if my work was save or not. Another struggle was getting the piece itself to look neat, and take in some inspiration while also incorporating my own style. Connecting to the ACT 1. My inspiration from this piece doesn't necessarily come from the techniques of O'Keeffe, but how she came up with the things she made and the so many different meanings that you are able to find behind her works.
2. O"Keeffe uses the flower as a symbol that is seen to represent feminism or the female reproduction system as something that is beautiful and important to the world and an important aspect of nature itself. And with my piece I really wanted to tie in the whole nature aspect of it. 3. From my research, I was able to find that if you look behind the actual image of O'Keeffe's works itself, you are able to find a meaning f your own, and relate it to so many things in the world around us. 4. My central idea for this project was to create something with a new medium, but also incorporate the reoccurring theme of nature within my pieces. 5. In conclusion I was able to connect my work to an artist who I believe has similar intentions to her work as the way that I want mine to be interpreted. Just created with our own styles and techniques. |
