Exhibition I created my piece the way that I did because I wanted to do something a little different. I wanted to do watercolor as a medum because it is something that I have never worked with. I am also bery inspired by nature and the things around me, so I wanted to tie them together, using a style that has its own natural flow to it.

Research Above are pictures of the books that I used to better my ttechnique of watercolor. I was never really familiar with this sort of art, but I wanted to try something different. To know for sure that I got the technique down and completed correctly, I used books from my grandmother, who is a watercolor artist herself.
I started out with the book for beginners and the artsit bible because I wanted to see the basis of the technique itself step by step. Some books I was looking into showed only picture steps, while these had individual explanations. I then began to look into the magazines to find a piece similar to the one in which I wanted to create. I wanted to find one that used similar techniques and color choices in which I wanted to achieve. Inspiration The artist that I chose for my inspiration to this piece is an artist located in Portland Oregon. I came across her work by browsing the internet while conducting my research. I was inspired by her vibrant color choices and the way she chooses to represent each main focus within her pieces.

Process First Slide: This is the kind of paper that I used to create my project on. I used the best paper that I could, and what I thought would be the perfect size to create this piece on.
Second Slide: These are the kinds of brushes that I used to create my piece, along with the watercolor paint I mixed myself onto the pallet. I took some of each of the colors, and to get the colors I used for this piece, I mixed various ones together. Third Slide: This is the first piece I decided to create. I originally wanted to do something with a sunset and ocean, but I wasn't exactly sure that this was something I wanted to do, and did not exactly come out to my liking. Fourth Slide: This slide is the second picture that I created, before I decided on my final piece. It was a recreation of a piece I found in a book while doing my research on watercolor. Reflection Overall, I believe that this project went very well. There were some struggle in the beginning, but I used them as learning experiences, to better my final piece. I wasn't exactly sure what I was going to do, but looking through the books gave me lots of ideas. I'm very into things in nature, and a lot of my work revolves around it, and I wanted it to stand out.
Struggle that I faces while creating this piece were that the paint was spreading too quickly along the paper, and sometimes too much water would be added and the pigment would not be as strong as I wanted. After experimenting with this for a little bit, I was finally able to learn how the paints are and learned ways to avoid these types of issues. Connection to the ACT 1. I am able to identify with my inspiration because I feel like I was able to accomplish her vibrance in color and do it in a way in which was neat and just flow together.
2. I noticed that Beck uses the same sort of bright colors found within the beautiful nature of the sunset, that I wanted to create within my piece. Just with using a different color scheme. 3. From my research, I was able to look further into the watercolor techniques, and what it takes for them to be done completely. I believe that I was able to better my technique and use my sources the best to my advantage. 4. My central idea for this project was to really look into something different, but create something that I know I enjoy making pieces on, which is nature. 5. In conclusion, I believe that I was able to correctly show my understanding of the watercolor artists, that I was not able to understand before. |
