Title: Myself
|
Exhibition Why did I create the piece the way I did? I did this piece the way it came out because Pop Art is one of my favorite movements, next to German Expressionism. You're able to make something that would be seen in a comic book, but also something that is going to be recognizable, at least somewhat, to the people who are viewing your work. I like to play around with the bright colors, and the fact of being able to create something that's basically comic book, and add your own realistic touch.

Inspiration My inspiration for the piece was by Roy Lichenstein. I chose to do this piece by him because I like how the colors match up and go together so perfectly, and I also like how this piece has a sense of emotion. By the look in her eye you can tell and almost think of some background and wonder what is going through her mind. And that is something that I wanted to do, and have people experience with my work.
From the beginning of the assignment, I always had the idea that I wanted to do something like pop art. I wanted to incorporate the main ideas of the movement, and add that into my own little twist on what it is and should be. I knew that I wanted to do this specific painting because I wanted to also put a meaning that something that is not clear happened, and something is running through the mind of myself. |
Planning/Sketches First Slide: This slide shows the sketch that I made of the original piece. I had sketched one so I would have a template of where I can begin to add my features instead of the ones represented on the woman in the original.
Second Slide: This is where I printed out my piece to be on a transparent piece of paper. I printed out the sketch that I made of the original, along with a few nof the features I made of myself that were not as defined. I then took it upon myslef to go over the features of the woman and add mine on top, keeping things in the osition in which they should be. I changed things like the style of my hair, and the way that my eyes are shaped. Another thing that I changed was the shape of the mouth. I made mine to be thinner, because my lips aren't as defined and full as the woman portrayed. |
Creation Process First Slide: This slide shows the first things I did to my piece after I projected it onto my canvas. I wanted to start with the easier things to do, like eyes, and hair. Because I knew it would be a good base, and I knew that I could get something done during the duration of a class period.
Second Slide: This slide shows how I tried to match my skin tone, even though the original artist has the skin tone to be more of a pinkish color. I wanted to take his inspiration, but also take my features into consideration as well. Third Slide: In this slide is shows how I changed the way my hair looked. In the first few slides I wanted to keep the hair to be somewhat close to the original piece, but I then decided that it wasn't me and it just didn't sit right. My hair flows downward and has a few stray sections, so I wanted to incorporate that aspect. Fourth Slide: This slide shows what the result was when I painted in the shadows, and added a detail to my mouth. I painted the shadows thinking it would look nice and make sense, and seem like the original piece, but I realized that it just didn't fit. I knew that I had to change it. Fifth Slide: This final slide shows what the result of my piece was after taking away the horrible, almost random shadowing, and putting more detail and strokes into my hair. In my opinion, it turned out very well. |
