Title: Urban Landscape
|
Exibition Text My intentions for this piece was to create a landscape that resembled something that we all know about, and is something that is important for the city we live in. I wanted to use shapes that is familiar to us, but wanted to create my own sort of set up. I feel like this project went very well. There are a few things that I would change, such as correcting the proportion of the buildings to the benches, but overall I feel as if it turned out very well. I am happy with the things that I was able to accomplish.

These slides just show various angles of my piece. Allowing the person viewing to see it from other perspectives, other than face on.

Inspiration For my inspiration, I chose to use The Milwaukee Art Museum, that was created by Santiago Calatrava.
I didn't choose to use the art museum as the main focus of my piece because it is found in Milwaukee. Yes, it's great that something like this is in Milwaukee, and I have the luxury of seeing it at any given time, but the reason behind me using it is way different. I chose to use the art museum because of its unique form, that is so indifferent. The shapes that Calatrava used, aren't everyday shapes that you find on every building. The use of the wings and string like bridge structure just look so beautiful, and almost mimic the shape of a bird as if it is flying high in the sky. |
Planning Sketches First Slide: This slide shows the first sketch that I made for the making of my board. I wanted to experiment with the fact of not going all the way through with the lines to end of the board, but wasn't exactly sure if it would turn out the way that I thought.

Process First Slide: This slide shows the tools that I used to create my piece.
Second Slide: This shows the process of me sawing my wood. Everything that was cut was cut by myself,by hand, except for the board itself. Third Slide: This shows the rough edges that were left over from when I was sawing my pieces. I used the sand paper to make sure that the sides were smooth. Fourth Slide: This is some of the other smaller pieces that I had sanded to make sure that they stand up, and don't topple over. Fifth Slide: This shows the floral foam after I cut it while experimenting with the different kind of texture. Sixth Slide: This slide shows the floral foam after being cut into shapes to form a tree. After going through this process I realized that I no longer wanted to use it for my piece. |
